I told Wesley (Joyce, winning jockey) going out to keep him fairly forward as he had a bit more experience than the other horses and I think that’s what won it. The other horse (Confucius) was very green and the penny didn’t drop until late on. It’s nice to win a Curragh maiden as a two-year-old at the start of the season. I don’t know where we’ll go from here. If some lad comes with a big cheque this fella (brother Laurence, winning owner) might sell him! He’s a good honest little horse. Michael Mulvany, trainer
The Raceday Stewards received a report from Mr. H. Hynes, Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Clerk of the Scales, regarding the fact that A.S. Grant, rider of Fiery Anne, presented to weigh out at 3lbs overweight, without any overweight being declared. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who explained the circumstances surrounding the overweight and apologised. Mr. J. Kidd, Authorised Represenative for Mr. John C. McConnell confirmed that the trainer and the owner were keen for A.S. Grant to retain the ride. Having considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards allowed A.S. Grant to retain the ride under the provisions of Rule 198(vii)(b)
They were, however, satisfied that A.S. Grant was in breach of both Rule 198(vii)(a),and Rule 195(i)(b), and in considering his clean record in this regard they fined him €150 on this occasion. Furthermore, the Raceday Stewards advised A.S Grant to liaise with the IHRB Senior Medical Officer, Dr. J. Pugh, regarding his minimum riding weight
At the request of the Raceday Stewards, L.F. Roche, rider of Two Brigade, trained by M.D. O'Callaghan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was very slowly away.
For two years old only, maidens at starting that are EBF eligible Weights - 9st 7lbs. Fillies allowed 5lbs.
