Normally I wouldn’t run her back this quickly but it looked like an attractive pot and there weren’t many entries so we decided to stick her in. I’m delighted now. The more positive tactics seem to be working with her. She can be tricky and she just likes things her own way. She did it well and that’s her third hurdle win so she’s paying her way. You forgive them for being a little bit tricky, and hard to deal with, when they are able to get you a win or two. She’s a nice mare. The Raceday Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Shaboozee, ridden by J.J. Slevin, and trained by Joseph Patrick O'Brien. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer's representative Mr. Damian Byrne. J.J
Slevin stated that his instructions were to get his mount to settle and jump, take his time in the early stages of the race. He added his horse didn't travel well, didn't jump well, and after the fourth last felt he was out of the race before he ran on past tired horses after a couple of horses were hampered by the faller on the flat. He further added it was the horses first run in a long time and he isn't easy to train at home. Mr. Damian Byrne confirmed the instructions given adding he is difficult to train which explains the absence from the track and expressed his satisfaction with the ride. The Raceday Stewards also received a report from the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer who stated that Shaboozee was post race normal. Samples were taken for further analysis. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards noted the explanations given.
An extended handicap hurdle for four years old and upwards (130 = 11st 12lbs) Penalties - Winner of a hurdle race after calculation of the handicap shall carry 7lb extra for each hurdle race won.
