An enquiry was held to consider whether James Best, the rider of Equinus (IRE), which was pulled up, had continued in the race when the horse appeared to be tiring.
The rider was interviewed, and recordings of the incident were viewed.
The rider’s explanation that on approaching the third last down the backstraight on the final circuit, he allowed the gelding to decelerate into the fence which resulted in Equinus (IRE) jumping the obstacle awkwardly after which he pulled the gelding up.
His explanation was accepted.
