Permission was given for Cairo (IRE) to go early to post.
The Veterinary Officer reported that an employee of P Twomey, the trainer of Deepone (GB), had administered iced bandage therapy to the colt on the day of the race and had brought a bottle of disinfectant into the racecourse stables.
The trainer, the trainer’s representative, the Veterinary Officer, and the Equine Welfare and Integrity Officer were interviewed.
As Deepone (GB) had received iced bandage therapy in the racecourse stables on the day of the race without prior Veterinary Officer approval, the Stewards withdrew the colt and fined Twomey £140.
They further confiscated the disinfectant, ordered that it should be tested, and referred the matter to the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority.
Prior to this race, K R Burke was asked to explain the reason why he was running Liberty Lane (IRE) here at Chester on going described as Good, having reported that the gelding would prefer a slower surface following its run at Doncaster on 29 March 2025 on ground described as Good to Soft, Good in places.
Burke’s representative’s explanation that having received feedback from various riders over the previous two days that the Going was riding on the easier side of Good, they were happy for Liberty Lane (IRE) to take its chance on this occasion.
The raceday privilege request for Cairo (IRE), trained by Alice Haynes, to go early to post was not submitted.
Haynes was warned as to her responsibility to ensure that all raceday privilege requests are submitted by 1pm on the day before racing.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Certain Lad (GB), placed sixth, lost its left-fore shoe.
