Snellen’s brother wins Navan’s delayed opener
Delay helps Baggot Street gain maiden success
the delay was fortunate for us, as the rain which fell during that time helped this filly. She has run very effectively for Charlie (Johnston) all last year, so we had a good line on her. We felt by keeping it simple racing from the front over six furlongs would suit and she has nicked it there. Pierce (Molony, owner) is a good supporter of us and I'd imagine she will head off to the breeding shed. She has a great pedigree and is now a winner, so it is job done on our part.
Matriarchal rules the roost in juvenile fillies' maiden
I was actually a little worried about the ground after a bit of rain - she actually managed it quite well. She ran in two good races and it just didn't work out for her those first two times. Today, we left her alone and she travelled away lovely for Andy and he didn't fight with her. She kept going. Every race she has improved, so we are very happy with her. We always thought a lot of her, she clocks good speeds at home and does her work really well. Every week is getting better for her. I think so (winners could come out of that race) and she has shown in her other races that she has improved. The other horses that beat her previously are very good horses. They are going to turn up in Ascot. Hopefully, she will keep improving and I think she will. She has a good mind and she will take plenty of galloping. She is just one of those very easy horses to train. Obviously, we trade and that is kind of our game at home. We are happy to keep if not (sold).
Neatly named Namiid comes good at Navan
I called him after a horse I rode called Namid, who won the Prix de l’Abbaye in 2000. This horse has plenty of speed but I'm not sure he'll win an Abbaye!. he's been second a few times, but Ben says he seems genuine, he just seems to run into one each time. I thought five furlongs here would suit him, and this is my lucky track! . He had the rating to win today but fought and that's exactly what Ben said. It looked like the runner-up (Xerling) was coming and the loose horse helped him motivate him.
Carroll grabs a brace of Navan winners through Howd'yadoit
He has done great. He has never let us down from two until three and won the big race in Naas, the Ballyhane Stakes. Everything was a bonus after that race. All these races will teach him. The likes of the Scurry (Curragh) and all those races are there for him over the summer. We'll go through the grades while the handicapper allows us.
Queen's Vase candidate Limestone wins Yeats Stakes
it was a great ride from Dylan, he is a progressive horse with a good pedigree and is by a good stallion. We are delighted to have him and today was another step forward from his win the last day at Cork. It always looked like he would get that trip and he has got some nice options ahead. We will have to discuss plans with the ownership, but I would say that is likely he could turn up in the Queen's Vase in Royal Ascot.
Santa Bravado scores on handicap debut
he ran a nice race first time out and being a big horse, Dundalk then maybe came a bit soon. We should have left him alone that year and he had a nice enough run here first-time out this year. We hoped this was the natural progression putting him into a race like this. He would have got in at bottom-weight, but luckily the weights went up and then Billy got the ride. Billy gave him a lovely ride, he just took his time and produced him at the right time. He was getting every yard of the trip, so it looks like we have options and he handled that bit of ease. We'll see what the handicapper does and he could possibly step up in trip.
