Timesareachanging scores on hurdle debut at 25/1
The lads bought him in Cheltenham at the sales out of Colin Bowe's for 19,000 (guineas); he won a three-runner point-to-point. Good staying horse, loves that ground. Nice horse. The run at Christmas brought him on. He was off the track a long time before that.
Progressive Zanoosh lands Navan feature
She's as tough as old boots, and seems to handle the soft ground. We are delighted and she is only learning the game. She is still a novice and is still unexposed. She seems to be improving the whole time. We'll see where we go, we'll have a chat with the lads again and see. There's a mares' race back here in three weeks that will probably be an option as well. We'll see how she comes out of it.
One Big Boum makes all for Moore and Fenton
First-time blinkers made a big help because we felt he just about was doing enough, that's all, before we put the blinkers on him. He seems to be able to cope with soft to heavy and he stretched away. He's big enough to jump a fence, so I'm sure we will end up over fences maybe sooner rather than later. His jumping was immaculate today, so we are very pleased. He ran at Christmas, so I'm sure it will be three to four weeks before we will ask him to go again. This place can test a horse, so you wouldn't want to go back too soon. He certainly wouldn't go on summer ground, so he will be out again before the season comes to an end.
Joystick upsets hot favourite in beginners chase
I got a lovely time in front, jumped from fence to fence, and got an easy enough time of it. When Darragh (O'Keeffe, on Slade Steel) came past me at the second last, I thought maybe he had me but I kept picking up and picking up and he was a good winner at the line. These (Ricci) colours used to be very good to me with Willie and I've had a bit of luck with them, so hopefully it will continue. I was just saying to someone the other day, he has such high standards. If he doesn't have a day with a winner, people are giving out. He has such a high standard now, everyone expects him to win all the races.
Hayes completes 396/1 treble as Brown Boots makes winning debut over fences
It is a staying family, his (half) brother Ballygrifincottage was fourth in an Albert Bartlett (2022). To be honest now, first run in a handicap, first run over fences, you are always nervous. The main thing is to get around. Probably wasn't a wonderful race and Brian was very happy with the way he jumped; he said he jumped super. It was nice to get it, and he is a nice horse going forward. Yes (unexposed) and hopefully (bit of scope). He surprised me now because I walked it (ground) and I thought it was horrible enough but look he handled it and I'm happy with his jumping. Brian is a very good lad and he works hard. He's a good team player.
Mullins doubles up as The Irish Avatar impresses in the bumper
He is a fine, big, tall horse, quite narrow, light-framed. A big, long stride and I said if I was pulling out of him, I was going too slow. That worked fine. It's only in the last two weeks, since we have really done a few sharp bits of work with him, that he has come. He wasn't showing an awful lot early in the season. He is improving with every week now. We hope so (plenty of improvement in him), but I'm really looking forward to him over jumps. I think that is really where he is going to be at his best because he has a big, high cruising speed and that is his strength, I think.
