Rounding the bend into the home straight when on the first circuit, Oneupmanship (IRE), placed fourth, stepped left-handed for a stride, shifting No Rematch (IRE), which was pulled up, left-handed into the path of Gold Emery (FR), placed second, causing the latter to become unbalanced for a few strides, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Oneupmanship (IRE).
Following the race, Robert Dunne reported that No Rematch (IRE), which was pulled up, jumped poorly and Jack Tudor reported that Last Quarter (IRE), which was pulled up, was never travelling; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
