Shortly after the start, the winner, Trawlerman (IRE), lugged left-handed crowding Broome (IRE), placed sixth, onto Sweet William (IRE), placed third, which was hampered after being slowly into stride, causing it to bump with Stratum (GB), unplaced, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Trawlerman (IRE).
Following the race, William Buick reported that Stratum (GB), unplaced, was never travelling.
