THE QUINNBET DAILY FREE BET JUVENILE HURDLE RACE (CLASS 4) (GBB RACE) An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Adba (FR), ridden by Harry Kimber and trained by Faye Bramley, which was held up in rear and appeared to be tenderly handled in the straight to finish sixth of nine runners, beaten by 37½ lengths.
The rider and trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race.
The Veterinary Officer examined the gelding post-race and reported that there were no significant findings to report.
Kimber stated his instructions were to hold the filly up as she had been keen at home and having been a miler on the flat, they were concerned that Adba (FR) would not get the trip.
He added that he had planned to tack on to the back of the field but, after the filly had run very free to post, he had elected to sit further out of his ground than was ideal as he didn’t wish to sit upsides the other runners as he didn’t want the filly to start over-racing.
Kimber further added that he was also concerned about being too close to Keep Under Wraps (GB), unplaced, as that gelding had run out on its previous run.
The rider further stated that he had asked for an effort leaving the back straight and she had made up a little ground to the rear of the field but once in the straight, the filly tired and he felt it prudent to keep hold of her head adding that he was only gaining on other runners as they were stopping.
Kimber finally added that, in his opinion, he had achieved the best possible placing as, had he ridden the filly more prominently, she would have struggled to complete the race.
Bramley stated that Adba (FR) was further back in the early part of the race than she expected but considering the circumstances and the rider’s explanation, she was satisfied that the ride accorded with the instructions.
Their explanations were noted.
