THE DAVID LUCAS BEST PRICES WELSH SPORT MAIDEN STAKES (CLASS 3) (GBB/GBBPLUS RACE) An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference inside the final furlong involving the winner, Battle Of Maldon (IRE), ridden by Saffie Osborne, and Hapiness (IRE), placed second, ridden by Hector Crouch.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Battle Of Maldon (IRE)’s placing as despite the runners making contact with each other on two occasions in the final furlong, the first contact appeared to be caused by them stepping in towards each other before Battle Of Maldon (IRE) proceeded to drift right handed bumping Hapiness (IRE) and taking the filly off its intended line on the run to the line, there was no loss of momentum with the rider of Hapiness (IRE) able to continue riding his mount forward throughout the final furlong with Battle Of Maldon (IRE) appearing to be holding Hapiness (IRE) with the winning distance a neck at the line.
The Stewards therefore ordered the placings to remain unaltered.
Osborne was cautioned for careless riding as she allowed her mount to drift right-handed without sufficient correction carrying Hapiness (IRE) off its intended line.
