An enquiry was held into the apparent improvement in form of the well supported winner, Born In The West (IRE), ridden by Miss Rebecca Hitchen and trained by Sam England, compared with its previous run at Wetherby on the 26 November 2025 where the gelding finished fifth of nine runners, beaten by 18¼ lengths.
The representative of Sam England was interviewed, and the handicapper present also offered his observations on the horse’s profile.
When questioned the representative could offer no explanation into Born In The West’s (IRE) improvement in form other than potentially being ridden by Miss Rebecca Hitchen who is the gelding’s regular rider at home and the return to Catterick where the gelding has won previously.
The Stewards noted their explanation and Born In The West (IRE) was routine tested.
Following the race, the representative of Lizzie Quinlan reported that Sputnik (IRE), which was pulled up, was never travelling and the Veterinary Officer examined the gelding post-race, and had nothing to report.
