Mare Crisium brings up Clonmel double for Shane Foley
she is well-bred and we trained her sister (Queen Of Thunder), who was unlucky to be narrowly beaten in a Group 3, so it is important to get a winning bracket today. Obviously when you buy them, you hope they'll be better but she has found her level and has shown consistency in her last few runs. She was one of a few who were fancied today, and got her turn. She has plenty size and scope, will stay in training next year and will probably run once more this year. She handles most grounds, except extremes and is effective from 1m2f to 1m4f. I think she'll improve next season.
Blinkers prove key as Sinbad reverses form with Lough Leane
The horse is a little bit of a rogue and is reluctant to go in to the stalls and is then slowly out. He likes that ground and while he ran well here in the past, threw it away at the start. We knew he'd handle the track so we're delighted to get this second win with him. He has lots of ability but looks after himself and we might go over hurdles with him. That is Keithen's first winner for me, and he actually started off riding out for me. He is also from Monasterevin and is from a talented family, as his sister is a multiple world champion at Irish dancing. They're a lovely family as well, which is more important, so I didn't want him walking around Monasterevin saying I hadn't given him a winner!
Guy's Girl another winner for in-form McCreery
that is very important as she has a lovely pedigree. Steve Fisher owns and bred her, so I'm delighted to get this win. They were going to pull up stumps with her but I said to hold on, as she has heart and I just had to place her right. She is four, is very small and knows she is very small, as she won't go up through horses. They went hard which suited and it is job done today. Billy gave her a lovely ride and I love giving him winners, as he is in two mornings a week when he gets up at 5am. He is with me 14 years and is a great horseman and jockey. He has all the attributes for a jockey, is brave in the stalls and everywhere, and I couldn't say enough about him.
Eagle flies in to land Clonmel feature under Donaghue-Leahy
I fancied him today but some of my horses were under a cloud and there were some with temperatures. I was worried but he was going particularly well. If it was two weeks ago, I'd have said he was a total certainty but this story is the same with a lot of yards this summer. He is a very nice horse and we might go up into a big handicap now. I've won this Tipperary Cup maybe seven or eight times, it could even be nine.
Cornmarket wins Clonmel night cap despite late drift
he is well handicapped on the Flat and we said we'd give this distance a go. I fancied him but thought he might be caught for toe, which he was coming down the hill, but he stays well and that won it. I'm based in Killala, Ballina in Mayo and am full-time training horses, although I've only recently recovered from a broken femur last Easter. I was previously a farrier but am getting more into training now, and took over from my dad in 2018, so I'm looking for owners. I grew up with horses, worked for trainers Oliver Brady, Shane Donoghue, David Ryan and Niall Moran and rode a little bit, but the weight got the better of me. It took almost four hours coming here today but it was a special day, as the best part, was the Sam Maguire Cup was at my childrens' school, so my kids Lillian, Sarah and Jamie got to lift it.
