THE UNIBET MORE EXTRA PLACE RACES RESTRICTED NOVICE STAKES (CLASS 4) (for horses in Bands B, C and D) (GBB RACE) Permission was given for Bankatary (FR), Feelin' Free (GB), Liberate (FR), Lucy The Wire (IRE), and St Hilda (IRE) to wear a red hood to post.
St Hilda (IRE), trained by Marcus Tregoning, spread a plate on the way to post.
As the trainer had not indicated at declaration stage that the filly should be withdrawn in the event of losing a shoe, St Hilda (IRE), ran without its left-fore shoe.
Approaching the final furlong, Quiet Summer (GER), placed second, shifted sharply left-handed, moving Bankatary (FR), unplaced, slightly off its intended line, which in turn took Lucy The Wire (IRE), placed fourth, marginally of its intended line, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved, and that it had not improved the placing of Quiet Summer (GER).
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference shortly before the line, involving the winner, Liberate (FR), ridden by Pierre-Louis Jamin, and Quiet Summer (GER), placed second, ridden by Daniel Muscutt.
The Stewards considered that the interference was accidental and had not improved Liberate (FR)’s placing as the fast-finishing winner had ducked sharply right-handed despite the riders best efforts when coming for its run from behind, with the winning distance being a head.
Following the race, William Cox reported that Gold Hill (GB), unplaced, was slowly away.
