Wood springs 40/1 shok for Smith
He did that well and Julian was happy with him. We have had him up here a few times and he has worked well, so we were happy with him coming here. I was worried about the weight and I was kind of worried about the mile, but Julian said he actually liked it. Long may it continue (association with Pietropaolo), he's value I think and he is definitely an up-and-coming jockey. The plan was to give him the run today and then he is going to have to get a break at some stage. We'll have to reassess and he could back here in January, I won't rule it out.
Dandy does the business for Thorne
He was (resolute in the finish) and he has threatened to do that. Hopefully now that will give him plenty of confidence. He's a horse that we have always liked. We purchased him from Middleham Park after Galway, just thought he would be a lovely horse for the all-weather for the winter. We were lacking a fresh batch, most of my older stock have moved on. He was one of the fresh ones coming in. He has been showing up nicely in work and I just said if it clicks with him, and everything goes right, there would be a couple of days in him over the winter, I hope. We'll look for something similar. He will probably be out of the '80' grade, but we will probably look for a '90' grade in December or January. We'll take our time with him, he'll have a couple of runs. He might be a nice horse for Lingfield (Good Friday), a fast-run mile will suit him well. They didn't go overly quick there today, so I'm impressed by the way he quickened up from the back of the field. He's only a young horse by Far Above - a fine, big stamp of a horse so hopefully he will continue to improve and progress. Ben gave him a lovely ride and he has been lucky for me this year, so hopefully we continue to support him.
Thorne doubles up with Les
Lot of nice horses in there. We bought him in July, we took our time, and he ran a lovely race in the Bold Lad Sprint (third). We thought he would be a lovely fresh horse for the system. We paid a lot of money for him, we defied a lot of Middle Eastern money in the ring for him. Since the moment he came in, he showed us strong work and I'm hoping that this horse will hopefully develop into a little bit more than a premier handicapper next year. Time will tell. He has done that very nicely. All his wins have come on the all-weather, but he does have a split mark so hopefully next summer we will put a ring around something like the Scurry Handicap or the Bold Lad. We'll probably be heading for Newcastle now on Good Friday. I think we need one more run and we'll plot something there in February time with a view to getting him there fresh. He won't be seen much over the winter here. He's a top of the ground horse. We ran him on soft ground in the Joe McGrath (Curragh) and it was a big mistake. He's a horse that does bend his knee a little bit, but he definitely appreciates top of the ground. Hopefully, he is a nice horse to look forward to. Nice bunch of lads involved in him.
Numidia 'pops up' again for Lawlor
He pops up once a year like Father Christmas!. I was planning to go hurdling with him all the time, but we tried him out here today. There's not too many two-mile events anyway. He got it handy there for most of the way around, he wasn't hassled that much. He relaxed away and finished off well.
