The winner, Red Happy (FR), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Exeter on 11 March 2022 where the gelding was pulled up.
It was noted that David Pipe’s representative could offer no explanation for the gelding’s improved form.
The performance of Esprit De Somoza (FR), which started favourite and finished placed fourth, was considered.
Mrs Jane Williams’ representative’s explanation that the gelding ran flat was noted.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Esprit De Somoza (FR), during routine testing, revealed that the gelding had a small haematoma on its left fore.
The Clerk of the Scales reported that Fergus Gillard, the rider of Abaya Du Mathan (FR), placed second, trained by David Pipe, had weighed in at 10st 7lb having weighed out at 10st 5lb.
Gillard, Pipe’s representative and the Clerk of the Scales were interviewed.
Gillard was suspended for 3 days for weighing in 2lb overweight.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Master Work (FR), which was pulled up, had bled from the nose.
