To be fair this was a long-term (plan). We wanted to come here, but wanted a prep run so went to Kempton beforehand. It was a bit of a gamble as he was also in over two and a half-miles, but we thought there were one or two more speedier types in there. He galloped through the line, though, and he couldn’t pull him up. I couldn’t repeat what I was thinking at the last! If he was a tired horse his legs would have gone to jelly. Permission was given for Come On Teddy (IRE) to wear a red hood to the start.
On arrival at the start, One Night In Milan (IRE) was found to have a small amount of blood in its mouth.
Having been examined by the Veterinary Surgeon, the gelding was deemed fit to race.
Ciaran Gethings, the rider of the winner, Hometown Boy (IRE), was suspended for 2 days for using his whip above the permitted level from after the last hurdle.
An enquiry was held into interference coming out of the back straight when J’AI FROID (IRE), placed second, ridden by Max Kendrick interfered with One Night In Milan (IRE), which was later pulled up, ridden by Billy Garritty, which in turn interfered with Barnaviddaun (IRE), which was later pulled up, ridden by Brendan Powell, which caused interference to Reserve Tank (IRE), which was also later pulled up, ridden by Robbie Power.
Kendrick was suspended for 3 days as he had allowed his mount to drift left with insufficient correction.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Barnaviddaun (IRE), which was pulled up, bled from the nose.
The Veterinary Officer further reported that a post-race examination of One Night In Milan (IRE), which was pulled up, failed to reveal any abnormalities.
