FormscanBy Michael Graham - SAMYR impressed with a clear-cut success in his bumper on heavy ground at Gowran Park and should improve on better ground considering he was bought to go on the Flat. Port Joulain merits automatic respect as he represents team Mullins. After his Gowran Park success in March, Willie Mullins commented that he would have been one for Cheltenham, but that he couldn't get him ready in time. Mullins' Cantico was eased when beaten in the Cheltenham Champion Bumper and could bounce back on this ground. Angelo Dundee hasn't been seen since winning a bumper on debut at the Punchestown Festival last year, but has plenty of ability.

Quotes on Angelo Dundee (IRE)
He’s a nice horse and will improve. He came alive about four furlongs out, but he quickened well and is a lovely horse going forward. He’s sharp. If we can keep him in for a bit of experience we will, but we’ll see what they want to do. Angelo Dundee was Muhammad Ali’s coach and Mr Conway said to me that they had to talk to Muhammad Ali’s family to get it cleared.

Quotes on Cantico (IRE)
We were disappointed to get beaten at Christmas and I think he improved from it. He could be a horse for nicer ground, he shows more gears at home than he has on the track and maybe that's just the soft ground blunting his speed. We hope that he's even better than the bare result there, even though he was very good. He was on his own there as well and he is a raw horse, he has been that way since we started, and I think he'll improve for racing.

Quotes on Goldinthemountains (FR)
He's a lovely horse. We got him after his summer break, Pat Doyle had him schooling in the spring and ran him in a bumper at Punchestown, he ran a beautiful race to be fourth. We hadn't killed him with work, he's strengthening up and enjoying life. He's a lovely tempered horse, you could ride him up through the crowd there and he wouldn't pay a blind bit of notice. He just has a good mind. He'll like a bit of nicer ground as well. He jumps really well, he has schooled over hurdles and fences, and he'll be a nice one to look forward to next year for hurdling. He might run in another bumper in the spring at Punchestown or here. He's not a typical bumper horse, he's just a good galloping horse and I'd say the further he goes the better he'll be.

He was on my Cheltenham Bumper team but I couldn’t get him ready in time, so I put him by for this race and I’m very pleased with him. We’ll probably have a look at a winners' bumper at the big Festivals.

Quotes on The Passing Wife (GB)
He’s a horse that never really showed us a whole pile at home. We ran him in a maiden hurdle in Cork and he ran a lovely race so I said we’d give him a go in a bumper. I thought he’d run a nice race today and be placed so I’m delighted with that. Decie probably got there a tad too soon but he put his head down and wanted to win in fairness to him. He’s not an over big horse and as I said hasn’t shown too much at home but once they show it on the track that’s what you want.

Quotes on Wingmen (IRE)
He’s a nice horse, a next-year horse. I think he’ll be better with a jump in front of him and you probably won’t see too much more of him this year. There is a massive engine there but he’s a bit hard on himself, a bit too keen. We might give him a run over hurdles later on in the season.

Quotes on Samyr (FR)
It was a nice performance and I'm delighted for Brian and Rob (Acheson, owners). It is my first runner in the Robcour colours and he obviously was bought to go on the flat. Alex Elliott bought him for Brian as a yearling but he had a couple of setbacks so Brian decided we'd wait for his four-year-old bumper campaign. We might reap the rewards of that going forwards. I was worried about the ground but decided to let him take his chance and there's no doubt he will be better on better ground. He is a good looking, well-bred horse and there is no doubt he could go back to the flat at some stage. It was a smart performance and we'll see what Brian and the team want to do now.
