Formscan - Gordon Elliott's enviable record in this race could be enhanced further now that Favori De Champdou has proved he can successfully complete this course. A cosy winner over track and trip last time out, the 11-year-old readily atoned for a fall here in December and looks the pick of his trainer's four entrants. However, last year's winner STUMPTOWN is a Festival veteran that seems to continually rise to the challenge of an idiosyncratic test. Last seen when enhancing his record over cross country fences with a comfortable success in the Velka Pardubice, the Gavin Cromwell-trained gelding tends to go well fresh and can be expected to make a bold bid to retain his crown. Desertmore House and Vanillier are others with strong form in this type of event and are likely to be in the mix once again. Final Orders and Latenightpass were brushed aside by Favori De Champdou here last time out but have feasible each-way chances based on their peak form.

I was very concerned for a while to be honest, but he’s run out a good winner in the end. I think Keith thought he wasn’t at his best either, but we’ll take it. He obviously loves the cross-country racing and Keith is definitely worth a few pounds around that track, that’s for sure. We’ll aim him at the Grand National. It is coming soon enough, but all being well, he’ll go there. It is tight, but the race today was on nice ground and there’s a lot of twisting and turning. I suppose on paper he was supposed to be doing that, but still it was nice to do it. If there is one guarantee, he won't be running in this race next year!. I wouldn't rule it out (a stint over hurdles now), it is worth considering. He certainly doesn't want heavy winter ground. In the Galway Plate he made a mistake and the false start was the biggest thing for him. He had a lovely position the first time if he had got away. He just didn't get a nice position and made a bad mistake (before finishing unplaced). I wouldn't rule the Galway Plate out for next year, it is a difficult race with all the hustle and bustle and he is only a small, little horse. It is not an easy task. Possibly another option for him maybe a Paddy Power in Cheltenham in November.

It’s great to see Vanillier back winning again, as I thought he’d lost his way a bit. Just recently, for whatever reason, he’s really sharpened up and blinkers were a help today,. He’s entered in the National and we have the option of the Cross Country in Cheltenham, but I don’t know exactly where we’re going to go. I’m delighted that he’s back motoring again and he enjoyed it. He’s on a mark that he might not get into the National, but this run today might help. It was unfortunate that A Plus Tard couldn’t run. The race worked out well and Jack gave him a beautiful ride. Paul (Townend) steadied the pace down the pace and Jack let him stride on. He said the faster this horse goes the better he’ll be. I thought Jack was wonderful. He’s not an easy horse and he’s actually starting to settle now. He was very kinky and Jack said he wasn’t doing a stroke the whole way up the straight. He jumped perfect all the way. We don’t gallop him a whole lot and he just does his routine work each day. We left him very short in Down Royal and Jack was thrilled and said he’d come on an awful lot from it. I’d imagine he’ll come back here for the Irish Gold Cup but we’ll have to talk to Michael (O’Leary, owner) and Eddie and make a plan. It’s great for Michael and Anita as it’s their first time to come racing this season and they are big supporters of Cullentra. They have backed me from day one. There was a lot of talk last season about which race he would go for in Cheltenham but he’ll definitely be going for the Gold Cup this year.
