Cadatharla wins Killarney National for Gavin Brouder Listowel jockey Gavin Brouder produced a power packed finish aboard the Colm Murphy trained Cadatharla to narrowly land the Tote Killarney National Handicap Chase. A winner over hurdles at Naas in 2023, the seven-year-old had failed to add to that success since switching his attention to chasing. 0-7 over the larger obstacles coming into the race, jumping issues had reared its head on recent starts. Settled in mid division by Brouder, Cadatharla moved closer on the final circuit, as Gaelic Arc led the field under Daniel King. The well backed Willie Mullins trained 11/4f Paggane took over in front under Paul Townend after jumping four out. Brouder crept into fifth on the eventual winner as the leading group entered the home straight. Going third three out, Cadatharla went second at the penultimate fence, before coming through to lead narrowly jumping the last. However, Paggane fought back to get her head in front over 200 yards out before Cadatharla drew alongside as the line approached. After a bob of heads, a photo was required, with the J.P. McManus owned 11/1 chance prevailing by a nose. Frank Berry said: "He is not that simple and Gavin gave him a fantastic ride as he has his own way of jumping and it was a tight track today. He has ability but is tricky, and it was a lovely race to win. "He had been unlucky a few times previously and will now tip away for the summer. He could go to Ballinrobe in a few weeks."
