FormscanBy Alan Magee - PLINTH has proved a grand servant to connections and may be able to add to his tally of ten career wins and in the process further bolster owner JP McManus’ fine record in this race over recent years. The Montjeu gelding is without a victory in well over a year but appears on a fair mark considering his recent form. He was far from disgraced behind Ballyoisin in a valuable handicap at the Listowel Festival, and divided Bedrock and Wicklow Brave in a Grade 3 again over two miles at Tipperary last time. That form received a significant update when the winner lowered the colours of Samcro at Down Royal, and this extra half-mile should play more to the strengths of the selection. Brex Drago and Slippery Serpent renew rivalry after filling the first two places over this trip at Listowel. Both have won again since, with Edward O’Grady’s charge respected now at the revised weights. Paul Nolan is strongly represented with Rooster Byron seeking a four-timer, although the handicapper has given him a total of 22lb for two handicap hurdle wins in the spring.
