Formscan By Alan Magee - VICS CANVAS is a very interesting contender and, despite advancing years, has very little mileage on the clock. The selection showed plenty reserves of stamina when winning a 2m3f bumper and 2m5f maiden hurdle before being sidelined for the best part of two years, and there was plenty to like about his reappearance over an inadequate trip at Naas last month behind Tennis Cap. The Old Vic gelding made a number of jumping errors, notably at the second last, but only lost out on the runner-up spot on the run-in. The winner has given the form a major boost since and, if avoiding the dreaded bounce factor, the ten-year-old looks sure to go close. Sumkindasuprstar was up with the pace throughout when fifth to Jadanli in the Thyestes Chase here last month and, with a hurdle rating two stone less than his chase mark, appears very well in. However he hasn’t run over hurdles for two years, and such comparisons can often prove expensive. Top-weight Rogue Angel lost a valuable point-to-point bumper at Fairyhouse in the stewards’ room before taking a modest Galway maiden hurdle. However he’s now on something of a retrieval mission after two below par efforts since.
