Permission was given for Percy's Pride (IRE) to wear a hood in the Parade Ring and for Buxted Reel (IRE) and Mr Big Stuff (GB) to wear a red hood to post.
An enquiry was held to consider interference 2 furlongs out involving Love Mystery (GB), placed fifth, ridden by Harry Davies, Al Azhar (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Ryan Moore, Percy's Pride (IRE), placed sixth, ridden by Callum Shepherd, Buxted Reel (IRE), placed third, ridden by Andrea Atzeni, and the winner, Awesome Dancer, ridden by Pat Cosgrave.
Davies was suspended for 4 days for improper riding as he switched left-handed when alongside Al Azhar (IRE) when it ought to have been obvious that interference would result, as in doing so he carried Al Azhar (IRE) off its intended line causing Al Azhar (IRE), PERCY’S PRIDE (IRE) and Buxted Reel (IRE) to make contact and become short for room and unbalanced between Love Mystery (GB) and Awesome Dancer (IRE), who had rolled slightly right-handed.
Having reviewed the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that Cosgrave’s involvement in this incident did not constitute a riding offence.
The apparent improvement in form of the winner, Awesome Dancer (IRE), which had never previously been placed, was considered.
George Baker’s comments that the gelding benefited from the step up in trip to 1 mile 4 furlongs from 1 mile 2 furlongs was noted.
Awesome Dancer (IRE) was routine tested.
Following the race, Jim Crowley reported that Mr Big Stuff (GB), unplaced, ran too free and hung left- handed.
