Permission was given for Walkinthecotswolds (IRE) to wear a red hood to post.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Walkinthewoods (IRE), ridden by Osian Radford and trained by Evan Williams, which was held up in mid-division throughout the race, before becoming detached from the front three having left the back straight.
Having turned into the home straight, Walkinthewoods (IRE) progressed under tender handling by Radford, until after the final fence, whereupon the rider became markedly more vigorous in his handling, finishing second, beaten by a short head.
Being a 10lb claiming conditional Radford was accompanied by a senior rider.
The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that two post-race examinations of Walkinthewoods (IRE) revealed no abnormalities.
The rider stated that his instructions were to ride the gelding in the second line of horses, on the inside to middle line.
He reported that he was happy with his position until he lost it when going out on the final circuit.
He continued that having regained the position, he allowed Walkinthewoods (IRE) to become detached leaving the back straight, being mindful of the heavy ground, with his priority being to get the gelding to finish strongly.
Having watched recordings of the race, Radford however acknowledged that his riding from leaving the back straight until the final fence was inadequate and as a result of his inexperience in the saddle.
The trainer, whilst agreeing with the instructions, was of the opinion that the ride did not accord with them.
He expanded that his first concern arose when Walkinthewoods (IRE) lost its position going out on the final circuit and that having done so, Radford never fully regained his position or composure in the saddle, which resulted in the rider asking for an effort much too late in the home straight.
Radford was suspended for 14 days for asking for an effort too late as a result of serious misjudgement or inattention.
Following the race, Adam Wedge reported that the saddle slipped on Mumbles (IRE), after making a bad mistake at the fifth last fence and as a result he pulled the gelding up.
