THE CARLING NOVICE STAKES (CLASS 4) (GBB RACE) Permission was given for Nabati (IRE) and The Resdev Rocket (IRE) to wear a red hood to post.

An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after two pieces of interference on the run to the line, involving the winner, Nabati (IRE), ridden by Billy Loughnane, and Tawakal (FR), placed second, ridden by James Doyle.

The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Nabati (IRE)’s placing, as initially Doyle had stepped right-handed off the inside rail bumping and turning Loughnane's quarters, and that thereafter a still unbalanced Loughnane had shifted marginally left-handed making contact with Doyle on the run to the line.

In arriving at their decision, the Stewards held the view that Nabati (IRE) had come from behind and was finishing it’s race off strongly to beat Tawakal (FR) by an extending head at the line, that Doyle had been the initiator of the interference and that although having suffered marginal interference himself as a consequence; Tawakal (FR) had lost neither ground nor momentum and was always comfortably held by Nabati (IRE).

The Stewards therefore ordered the placings to remain unaltered and found both instances of interference to have been accidental.
