Galway Plate-winning trainer ends lean spell
my horses maybe just weren't good enough and you just have to ride the tide. I have good owners though, and James (Murdock) is wildly loyal and a good friend. He bought Gangsta Granny off Mrs (Jessica) Harrington in an online sale and she told me that she has ability, and that a change of yard would probably help. I was very disappointed with her at Bellewstown the last day on tacky ground when she hung badly and she was beaten after only two miles. She loves it around here though and Sean gave her a fantastic ride. We'll see what the handicapper gives her and you'd have to come back here, maybe in two weeks' time. That will give her herself a lot of confidence and hopefully she can follow up again.
Endless Talking walks the walk in Downpatrick
He made the running in his point-to-point as well and he's quite a free, forward-going horse. He actually settled lovely in front and had a good look at his hurdles. Jumped well, jumped a bit big everywhere but he had plenty of time to get a good breather into him. Absolutely (could build his confidence) and loves that good ground.
Donoghue’s Doubt delivers under Williamson
Josh said they went a really good gallop, and always knew he was going to get there. He gave her a great ride. He is well worth his 5lb claim and is in with us every Monday for the last six months. He is a good young lad, works hard and we are happy to be able to use him. We were disappointed with her last year when it just took her a long time to learn how to race and she had plenty of good runs without winning. She was either be too keen or jump badly, whereas she put it all together today. She'll mix and match over fences for the summer and this is a good start.
Blinkers work the oracle on Finnians Row
First-time blinkers obviously, we just said we would try them. We just changed the headgear as he seemed to lose a bit of interest, so we just said we would put them on him. I'd say that is probably the difference in him. The ground was a help - he ran in a bit of slower ground the last two times and it didn't suit. He didn't enjoy it and obviously today he enjoyed it and he kept going well. He (McKenna) said he just took off with him, he said he jumped super and travelled well. He got a lead and utilised it, and kept going.
Crawford collects in 'Caughoo' Chase
this place can be horses-for-courses and Dinoland just loved that. To be fair, the owners were telling me that he ran well here in the past so were keen to come back. They would have liked to have been here but, unfortunately as it turned out, some of the boys are in Chester with another runner and some of them are down in Ballinrobe with another - it is all a bit spread out, but they’ll enjoy this!. The horse has ability and it has just been finding his happy place. That's his third run for us so hopefully we are finding the buttons with him.
Flynn lands the finale for Eastwood family
John Eastwood, who bred and owned this mare, died a year ago and his dad was Raymie Eastwood. His family are very patient, John was the same and gave me whatever I wanted The family are obviously delighted today. I liked her, ran her last Christmas but this is much more suitable mares' only race. She was then meant to run on St Patrick's Day but just had a slight setback. Oran has never ridden for me and it was a brilliant ride. I said if no one wanted to make the running, you can make it so just left it up to him and he is obviously a good judge of pace.
