Passing the one furlong marker, the winner, Tortured Soul (GB), hung left-handed despite the rider's efforts to correct his mount, carrying Raintown (IRE), placed third, off its intended line, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved, and that it had not improved the placing of Tortured Soul (GB).
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference inside the final furlong when the winner Tortured Soul (GB), ridden by Jack Doughty interfered with CHARLIE’S CHOICE, placed second, ridden by Taryn Langley.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Tortured Soul (GB)’s placing as the gelding was always holding CHARLIE’S CHOICE, to win comfortably by 1¼ lengths at the line.
Doughty was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as he had failed to take sufficient steps to prevent Tortured Soul (GB) drifting left-handed carrying CHARLIE’S CHOICE several horse widths off its intended line, which also caused Langley to become short of racing room down the inner.
Following the race; the Veterinary Officer reported that Raintown (IRE), placed third, had lost its left-fore shoe.
