Magnificent seven for Hackett's Sequoiaspirit
He had a great run last time and Henry’s horse (Factual Fact) ran well in the Curragh afterwards,. I was hoping he’d run well. It was hard luck on Liam Quinlan, he got stood down the other day, as he had all the work done with him. We had to come and take our chance and it worked out well. Alan gave him a super ride to be fair. He’s a great little horse, he tries hard. That’s only his second over hurdles but he’s been in the money more often than not. He’s a fun horse and we’re lucky to have him. We’ll keep him going for the summer and I’d say we’ll mix it. I might go back to Galway with him, over hurdles. He ran a blinder there last year. If things are working and he’s in good form we’ll drive on and if we go too high in the handicap we’ll skip Galway. We’ll see how he is.
Wild Bill Hickok upsets short priced jolly
We bought him to do this job, a four-year-old chaser — that was the idea,. He’s won two now and we’re over the moon with him. A bit of juice in the ground today, I’d say, helped him. It was as quick as he wanted it both times in Wexford but we felt the second time we had to run him for experience. He freshened up since that and we were very happy with him coming today. Obviously we didn’t think we’d beat the favourite, and turn that form around, but we knew with juice in the ground he’d get closer. We’re very happy with that. The idea was always the Grade 3 novice in Galway and he has lots of experience now going there. We’ll let him freshen up and if we’re happy with him that’s where we’ll go.
Hermino AA lands featured Connaght National under Tom Kelly
He’s a grand horse. He came from England last year and took a little while to find his form and he’s come down a little bit in the handicap as well, he was probably a bit high. It took him a while to find his confidence as well. He had the blinkers on today and back at a summer track, over an easier fence, he put it all together. He was good and I imagine we’ll look for something similar in a couple of weeks time. He definitely needs a bit of a trip anyway and that was brilliant today. He had a lovely low weight and Tom Kelly gave him a brilliant ride. Tom is in with us two days a week and he’s a very good rider. He was in Enda Bolger’s for a long time and did very well. He’s a fine rider and will definitely be used plenty.
Murphy doubles up as Soldante wins under Healy
He has been consistent in his few runs. The ground was a factor for him and he got it today. It was a valuable 7lb off him there. Kevin started with us from pony camp and has worked his way up. He went to Simon Cavanagh and it’s lovely to be able to give him a winner. I’m very pleased with the horse. He did it lovely, jumped beautifully. He’s been a good servant and I’m very happy to win over fences with him. He’s had some lovely runs. Eoin Walsh was riding but he’s out of action at the moment unfortunately, otherwise he would have been riding him. He’s learned plenty and he jumped professionally today, so I’m very pleased with him.
Kilkee Bay sees McNamara register double at Roscommon
He’s a grand horse. He came from Gordon’s a while back and he’s been disappointing a couple of times. Joey said they went a real good gallop and I’d say it played to a late closer. Joey gave him a brilliant ride. They went a bit quick and I’d say conditions just fell right for him, more than anything else. There weren’t too many horses in the race gave themselves chances of winning. I wouldn’t go over-reacting but it was lovely to get it. He has been a disappointing horse, his work is okay at home. Hopefully he might get a bit of confidence and build on that now.
Linford wins Roscommon finale to maintain unbeaten record
He’s a bit lazy but he always brings out his best at the end of the race. He doesn’t flash at home and who knows how good he could be. It was tough work off a real strong gallop. I probably sat too close to it but I couldn’t let Declan Queally’s mare get away. I thought he did well to cover her and still withhold the one that came from behind him. I think you could upgrade the performance, in my book.
