THE ANDERSONS DRAINAGE SOLUTIONS SUPPORTING BATH RACECOURSE NURSERY HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) Permission was given for Penny Capri (IRE) to go early to post, and for Dowman (IRE) and Jazz Queen (IRE) to wear a red hood to post.
Approaching half a furlong out, Perigord Noir (IRE), placed third, hung right-handed onto the hind quarters of the winner, Space Dreamer (IRE), which resulting in Perigord Noir (IRE) being mildly inconvenienced, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
An enquiry was held to consider two instances of interference from approaching one and a half furlongs out, involving the winner, Space Dreamer (IRE), ridden by Harry Vigors, Amber Ocean (GB), unplaced, ridden by Jack Doughty, PJ’S CORNER, unplaced, ridden by Stevie Donohoe, Perigord Noir (IRE), placed third, ridden by Jack Dace, and Birkacre Brow (GB), unplaced, ridden by Jack Mitchell.
Being under 18, Vigors was accompanied in the enquiry by a senior jockey.
In the first incident, the interference was found to be accidental as Space Dreamer (IRE) shifted slightly left- handed at the same time as Birkacre Brow (GB) shifted slightly right-handed, resulting in PJ’S CORNER becoming short for room and having to be checked.
In the second incident which occurred shortly after, Vigors was suspended for 3 days for careless riding as he allowed his horse to drift left- handed when insufficiently clear, causing Mitchell to take a significant check.
The Stewards noted that in the lead up to this incident, there was slight movement from Mitchell’s inside, when Perigord Noir intimidated Amber Ocean (GB) off its line, but they determined that the check taken by Mitchell was as a result of Space Dreamer (IRE)'s movement from the outside, and not of what occurred to the inside.
