'Swings and roundabouts' but luckless mare loses again
Sam thought he might have had Danny (Gilligan on Speculatrix) covered but no doubt Danny will say the same when I talk to him. They are there to be jumped and it was unfortunate for Speculatrix, but Danny and her are up. We will see where we go with Swing Davis, we will see if we can get a bit of black-type with her: she already has it in bumpers.
Dunboyne delivers despite 'PPPP' form-figures
I was at Stephen (O’Connor, owner) last year when this horse was pulling up, hoping to get him as an Open point-to-point horse. We have had horses for Stephen for the last three or four years and when Dunboyne pulled up in Leopardstown during Christmas, he said he’d then try a change of scenery.
Elliott and Ewing complete Navan doubles
Sermandzarak galloped out well there: he has a good attitude. I'd say going up in trip definitely suited him, he's tough and he stays galloping. He is a real stayer by the way he ran there, he stays very well.
Champ Kiely warms up for Easter with Flyingbolt win
he put in a good round of jumping and galloped to the line. Coming back to two miles wasn't any harm to him, so I'm very pleased with him. He could go to the WillowWarm Gold Cup (Grade 1) at Fairyhouse during Easter over 2m4f: that might be a better option for him (than Cheltenham).
Senecia shocks El Fabiolo in Webster Cup
wonderful, wonderful! . He is a brave horse and is a great jumper. He jumped as well as any of them in the Fortria (third in November). He has been highly tried and we thought the ground would find him out today, but he handled it. He was a £16,000 foal who we kept as a Covid carry-over and Navan has been a lucky place for me. I won the Fortria with Arctic Skipper under Sean Flanagan, when we got home a short head from all the big boys again!. I'd say it will on to be Fairyhouse or Punchestown next with Senecia.
Fahy and Sexton combine for another Listed win
Prince Palace had never won anything until now but he had been coming along nicely. He had a few lovely runs and it worked out today: we only get the odd oul’ big one!. I didn't even look at this (rescheduled) race when it was on in Naas because it was coming too soon but we said we’d take our chance, given he seemed to be going very well two-and-a-half furlongs out here the last day.
Lilian Bland wins finale for owner/trainer Hennessy
she's not winning out of turn and has been to every rodeo this year. Over hurdles, she always seems to bump into a wicked well-handicapped one. We saw this race coming up a few months ago and when the handicapper dropped her 1lb, she was in on rock-bottom and I said 'lovely’!. She is not the easiest to ride and can be wicked keen but he (Deegan) is the most underrated rider in the country. She is fierce well-bred, is a half-sister to an American Grand National winner (Noah And The Ark) and a sister bred Tripoli Flyer who won a Grade 2 the other day. there's a handicap chase in Thurles that she won last year in two weeks time and I would imagine that is where we will go. I'd only have two in, one for the track and one for point-to-pointing.
