At the second fence in the back straight on the final circuit, Royale Pagaille (FR), placed second, jumped left-handed crowding Imperial Aura (IRE), which subsequently fell, onto Bristol De Mai (FR), which was also subsequently pulled up, causing the gelding to become unbalanced after having his quarters turned, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Royale Pagaille (FR).
Following the race, Brian Hughes reported that Waiting Patiently (IRE), which was pulled up, made a mistake at the first fence and hung right throughout and the Veterinary Officer reported that Royale Pagaille (FR), placed second, sustained a wound to its right hind pastern and that Chatham Street Lad (IRE), placed third, sustained a wound to its left fore.
