An enquiry was held to establish the circumstances which led to Ben Curtis, the rider of Skycutter (FR), unplaced, appearing to have become ineffective with his riding from approximately 2½ furlongs out.
The Racecourse Medical Officer was interviewed, and evidence was given by the Chief Steward on behalf of Ben Curtis, having spoken with him on return from the course.
Curtis was unable to be interviewed in the enquiry due to requiring medical attention.
Curtis explained that he had used his whip once in the right hand, whereupon he dropped the whip having sustained an arm injury, which thereafter prevented him from being able to ride a finish and the Racecourse Medical Officer confirmed the nature and extent of the injury.
Their explanations were noted.
The performance of BANDINELLE, which started favourite and finished unplaced, was considered.
The representative of Charlie Appleby could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Bandinelli (GB) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
