The Stewards held an enquiry into why, once the Starter's flag had been dropped signifying that the race had started, a further twenty-two seconds elapsed before the runners began to race. They heard evidence from Richard Johnson, the rider of BREWIN'UPASTORNM (IRE), Barry Geraghty, the rider of CHAMP (IRE), Paddy Brennan, the rider of COOLANLY (IRE), Harry Cobden, the rider of GETAWAY TRUMP (IRE), Tom Scudamore, the rider of KATESON, Nico de Boinville, the rider of NESTOR PARK (FR) and Wayne Hutchinson, the rider of ALSA MIX (FR). Having received a report from the Starter they noted the riders' explanations that they had all been instructed by their trainers to drop their horses in and not to make the running. The Stewards drew the riders' attention to their responsibilities to start the race in a timely fashion once the flag had been dropped.
