Unique Journey back to winning ways at the Curragh
I’m delighted with the run because he’s a three-year-old. He had a four-year-old beside him and he’s a big strong horse that Gerrit’s Gem,. He ran a cracker in the Bold Lad, and he hadn’t run in three months because of the hard ground in the summer. He’s a good horse and I’ll consider entering him for York next Saturday, there is a £100,000 handicap. If he got heavy ground again he’d go. He’s in the October Sale. The owners want to buy a couple of yearlings so I said if we got a few quid for him we’d buy a couple of yearlings.
Patience pays dividends for Coen aboard Highbury See See
It was a nice performance from a three-year-old to beat some hardened sprinters. He’s very consistent and we’ve a lot of options. He is entered in the horses-in-training sale at Newmarket and we’ve a good slot in that, three-quarters through the catalogue on the first day. That is an option and the owners will decide that. They’ve a very nice, fun, horse on their hands whatever they decide to do. He’ll go up in the handicap now. There is one race (Irish Lincoln) that comes to mind at the start of next season that could be an option for him now. We’ve been second and third in it a few years and we’d like to win it. All these Belardos keep improving. They like a bit of juice in the ground and the older they get the better they get. We’ve been very fond of the sire since we had Fiach McHugh that went on to win a Group 1 in Hong Kong after (as Red Lion).

He ran well here last week (when fourth) and I was quietly hoping he’d run a good race today,. We got a race taken off us with this horse two years ago and we got justice today. The extra couple of furlongs helped him, he’s very honest and he keeps galloping.
Smoke Them Out completes Curragh double for Sam Coen
It was just the ground. He won last year at Cork on slow ground and was second in Naas. He ran well here at the beginning of the year but we just haven’t had that ground all year. We gave him a try at Dundalk. He ran well the first day but I’d say he mightn’t have let himself down last week. There is a big difference on that ground. I think there might be something else back here for him, whatever there is on soft we’ll try and keep going anyway. It’s just a pity that he’s that bit ground dependant. He’s very effective on that.
Syzygy makes it back-to-back wins for Danny McLoughlin
She’s a filly that I liked but she was slow to learn everything and she’s improving all the time,. The last day she probably just got away with it. Today she sharpened up plenty and Nathan said he thought he even kicked a little bit too soon on her as she only does enough. She’ll probably benefit from stepping up to a mile-and-a-quarter and she enjoys those conditions. We haven’t long left in the year and it’s just been so quick for so long, you just have to take these chances when they come. I thought you needed a horse that would get a mile-and-a-quarter on that ground out there today. She got 7lb the last day and if it had been a mile-and-a-quarter I’d have had a little bit more confidence today. It’s great to get it.
