uk RESTRICTED NOVICE STAKES (CLASS 5) (for horses in Bands B, C and D) (GBB RACE) Permission was given for Kurios Lady (GB), Dakota Breeze (IRE) and Charles Darnay (GB) to wear a red hood to post.
Alistair Rawlinson, the rider of Splinterwood (GB), was asked to explain his riding in the home straight where the gelding appeared to have finished its race under considerate handling, to finish seventh of the twelve runners, beaten 12 lengths.
Rawlinson explained that he felt Splinterwood (GB), which was having its third start today, was coming on slowly and that he had started encouraging the gelding Page 1 Published: Monday, 9th February 2026, 16:48 during the early stages of the race, to help it concentrate and go forward.
Rawlinson further stated that he had pushed Splinterwood (GB) from three furlongs out but that his mount, which briefly picked up, had flattened out in the closing stages.
Rawlinson felt that today’s run was an improvement over Splinterwood (GB)’s first two starts and that in his opinion the gelding might benefit from a step up in trip in the future.
His explanation was noted.
Following the race, Faye McManoman reported that Raja Charger (GB), unplaced, was slowly away.
