Malbay Madness forges home well in the north
I was a little bit disappointed in Bellewstown (eighth) because he was a bit keen. I was glad Paddy went on with him there at halfway because if he gets to relax, he finishes out the trip, obviously, like any horse. Paddy said they were going slow at halfway, so he just decided to go on and inject a bit of pace. He knew he would stay well up the hill, so it worked out well. It was a good run in Bellewstown and obviously the race did work out very well (winner Putapouninthejar followed up in the Galway Hurdle). He does it like here and his other wins were in Kilbeggan - something similar, righthanded. We'll see what is there next for him. We'll see what the handicapper does and freshen him up.

She is just improving all the time. There's a race for her back here again, and it is just amazing what she is doing. Nice prize today and a very competitive handicap. She seems to have a bit of a fan club now!. She is brilliant for me and for James (Murdoch, owner) too. Bought cheap enough and Mrs Harrington said a change of yard might help her. I worked her Thursday week ago and Sam, who rides her, said it was as good as he ever felt her. She'll keep going during the summer. Her half-sister (Ballinlea Star) has won a Group 3 on the Flat.

She ran well the last day, I don't know how strong a race it was. Looking at the form today, I thought Philip Rothwell's horse (Young Doran) and John McConnell's horse (Thesilverbridle). The only thing I did say to JJ was that Philip's horse stayed on past tired horses, so go today and make sure you make the running - let them make the mistakes. She didn't jump particularly well, in front she was a bit lonely. JJ was brilliant on her, he waited until he got something beside him going to the top of the hill. She jumped that and he was able to fill her up. She's a tough mare. That would be my third double. The yard is going well and it is great as I went through a very lean spell. It was depressing to be honest. You have to ride the tide and see what happens.
