In racing, you live with it and celebrate the good days. They'll eventually come back to form and my owners are forgiving as well, and have stayed loyal. We only have 35 horses, so to compete at that level in Ireland is very hard and then you see the entries for a stakes race with 58 two-year-olds, and 42 of them are O'Brien's. That's the way racing has gone and we're like the darts player with only one dart to throw. We don't know why the horses were out of form although we do have this new transition of vaccinating horses every six month, instead of nine, which might have had a bearing on it. Maybe we have to manage that a bit better.

He was tough, Darragh gave him a super ride and I'm delighted to get a winner here. He stays and jumps really well and I'm delighted for Tony and Caroline Head, who are over from Phoenix, Arizona. They are brilliant supporters of ours and of the game, so it is lovely to get them a winner here. Sam Curling recommended him to Tony and the horse has improved the whole time. He seems fairly adaptable ground-wise and with coming here always being the plan, we need to back off him now. He is only a novice until the end of November so we'll have to plot a course.

This has been a very lucky race for me and this is magic, as Ray Grehan is a local owner and is a great supporter of mine. It couldn't have worked out any better. From the time this horse came to me as a four-year-old, he just needed every year to mature and now he is coming to himself. I ran down to the start as I could see he was getting a bit upset. You're always trying to get them to the start without them boiling over and I took off his flash noseband, so luckily I got it off in time. I sprinted down and thought I was 20 again!. I didn't get to see all the race but everywhere I did see, he was travelling so well. He (King) was where you wanted him to be at all stages and for a lad of his age, he is some talent. I haven't seen a lot with his talent in a lot of years.

I thought she actually ran a great race the other evening at Gowran, when she drawn out wide and didn't get much of a run. She seemed well this morning so we took our chance and while we thought she wanted to go up in trip, it was obviously no issue. I'm delighted for Shay (Gillen), from Tullamore, as he is my principal supporter and it is great to have a winner here again this year, as I drew a blank last year. We've had winners with three horses here in the past and obviously One Cool Poet won three times in 2019. To get one here is always brilliant. She is second-reserve for a race on Saturday and if she gets in, she'll run all being well.

Billy gave him a lovely ride, got a good position throughout the race and he picked up nicely. He had won previously at Gowran and while we always felt he wanted 1m4f, we didn't get our tactics right the last few times. We got him to relax today, took blinkers off and put the cheekpieces back on and everything worked. Unfortunately Jim (Nicholson) isn't here and while I was in the UK with him recently and we travelled home together on the same flight, he couldn't come due to work commitments. I told him to come, without me sounding too confident, so he'll probably be sorry to miss out. Jim is from outside Belfast, is steeped in racing through his association with Down Royal and the Tote, and is a very good owner.

Run Ted Run holds on to send favourite backers home happy

This horse is very special and was called Run Ted Run by the HOS Syndicate, owned by Margaret and the late Andrew Heffernan. Andrew had named the horse after his down syndrome grandson Ted, so this horse is special and it is fantastic he won first-time out. Patrick didn't lose an inch the whole way around, waited in front and the horse held on to get his head in front at the line. He had been showing up nicely so we kept him for Galway and I'm just sorry the syndicate couldn't be here, as they have other commitments. I'll see what Patrick says but he should probably go hurdling next. I think he'll be a nice chaser in time so he may as well get on the road with jumping now.
