The (New Suit) syndicate bought five horses at the yearling sales last year and I always loved her from day one,. She’s a big filly and she’s out of a mare that got black-type in France. Derek Veitch, who has the horse with me in the next, sold her as a foal and he recommended her to me. Everything was always slow to happen with her and the sire was taking a bit of time to get going, that was the only doubt in my head. She’s still only a frame of a filly. The first day she ran, she’s very gawky, and things take time to happen with her. She jumped fine at home but when the gates opened in Listowel, with the colours and the slap of the gates, she got a bit of stage-fright. She got left ten lengths and she galloped out very well over six-and-a-half. She only got one or two flicks and it taught her an awful lot. She went the right way at home and we sharpened her up out of the gates. She worked very well last week. She’ll be a gorgeous filly when she lets down and as Ben said there she only got going in the last 50 yards. She’ll get a mile. She was having a fair look up the straight. All the horses in the syndicate are probably for sale. She’s been in from the start and I’d probably give her a spell for a week or two. Let her let down and fill up. She’s won now and we like giving them a good experience after they win. A week or ten days out in a field would be no problem. She handles a cut in the ground but is a very go
Well-bred Echo gets valuable bracket
It was lovely to get that with her. She’s a lovely, honest, filly and Shane gave her a smashing ride — kept it simple. She stayed at it well. She’s nice and tough and genuine. It’s very important with her pedigree to get a bracket with her and we’ll see where we go from here.
Lucrative a nice little earner for Smith
I’m delighted with that. They went a fair gallop and he came there travelling well and stuck at it well,. He got a few bumps as well. I’m delighted for his owners, Shay and Kathleen Gillen.
Nermal has options after breakthrough success
The last day they didn’t go much of a gallop but three of them took each other on there and it was a big help to us,. He’s an okay little horse, he deserved that but he could be at the full of his handicap mark now. I'd say we’ll start popping him over hurdles. We’ll probably try him in another handicap but he could start schooling away there now.
Poignant win for Rory Cleary and family
This was the plan and it was important,. She wasn’t coming into form and we gave her a run last week over a mile-and-five and she stayed the trip. It was a good run the last day and she likes this track, she needs an uphill finish and she needed every bit of it. It’s an important race to win for the jockey and I go back a long way with the Clearys. Tom and Kathleen ran the pony racing for long enough back in the early 2000s. We’re around a long time. It’s not a big race, but it’s an important one to win for them. Plans don’t often come off, but the filly was tough at the line and Rory knows her so well. It’s great for Rory, Tom and Kathleen and for Paul. It’s great for them all.
Bosphorus Rose blooms for Twomey in Lenabane
She’s a nice filly. She had a good run in the Munster Oaks and she came forward well from it,. It’s a race that we like, we’ve won three of the last five runnings now. Mr Prescott made a good job of her last year and we’re delighted to have her. Hopefully, she can continue to progress. I’d say she’s versatile, over a mile-and-a-quarter or a mile-and-a-half. We’ll look for a Group 3 now. I’d say she’s talented and we’ll see how we get on.
Ben Coen completes 120/1 treble at Roscommon
It was the perfect race. She had a lovely run the first day,. We did think, coming here today, that a mile and a-half around here with a little ease in the ground would suit her really well. Ben said he kept it simple and she won well. She was still a bit green, so hopefully there is more to come. She’ll probably be in a handicap next, today was important - to get that bracket beside her and everyone is happy.
