She’s a very nice mare and I think she deserved her turn,. I think the maiden hurdle that she ran in the last day was particularly strong. The fourth came out and won very well since. We thought she’d win and she did. Hopefully there are more races in her, I think she is a mare that is improving with every run. Onwards and upwards hopefully. There is a two-mile-six novice in Killarney in a fortnight’s time and a good novice in Listowel in September, so there are plenty of races for her. That’s the road she’ll go and I think she’ll be capable of giving a good account of herself.

Clay Pigeons makes a winning return to action at Roscommon

He needs good ground so the better ground helped him. Brian gave him a great ride and he definitely jumped much better today and was a lot sharper. Fakenham was probably the wrong track for him, and the wrong ground. I think there is plenty of improvement in him, maybe up in trip. He’ll go jumping fences next year. Maybe Listowel over further might suit him. He’s won two bumpers, a point-to-point, and a maiden hurdle so he’s a fair horse.

She'll Be Kept defies the handicapper for follow-up success at Roscommon

Her wind’s not brilliant and she needs a little chance to breathe early and find her feet. Once she gets that, and her confidence is up, she seems to be going the right way. It was a fortnight since her last run so we might give her a little chance now. We’re absolutely delighted and I’m delighted for Alex Ryan, who went out on a limb to buy her and it’s paid off.

It was a very ordinary beginners’ chase. We’ve a rating of 124 and hopefully the handicapper will drop us a good bit for that now,. The third horse was only 104. He was entitled to win it on his rating. We had a little concern over the ground but I don’t think it was too bad. He’s one of the few horses that we have that handles proper summer ground. He grabbed at the second last and missed it and what I liked today was when he got headed, he battled back. Last year he was making the running and when he got headed that was the end of him, but they were much better races last year. With a clear round he was entitled to go and do that, you’ll struggle to find a weaker beginners’ chase all year. I don’t think he’s good enough for any of the novices and I’m hoping the handicapper will drop him a little bit.

Enright lands a double as Another Challenge wins well

The horse has been a bit disappointing up until now, until he started jumping fences,. I was talking to Jimmy Mangan the other evening and he said to me that with this pedigree you normally see the best of these horses when they jump fences. I said ‘I hope you’re right Jimmy’ and he proved it this evening. He gave an exhibition of jumping; I couldn’t believe it. When he gave him a squeeze at the last, he went on fairly quickly. It’s great to get him going. He likes the ground and Phillip took the wider track for the slightly better ground. We’ve no plans, we’re delighted to win this.

Il Silenzio scores a repeat success at Roscommon

He’s a horse that has taken lots of time during his life,. He seems to be in a good place since he won here this time last year. We gave him a good long break after here. He had a grand run back in Punchestown, where he was a good fourth, but it was a tough race on him and it took him until now to get over it. He loves this track here and a bit of nice ground. He doesn’t take a lot and you could train him on the lunge. He’s easier than most. He might revert to a hurdle race if there wasn’t a chase coming up.
