Permission was given for Independent Beauty (GB) to be mounted in the chute and go early to post.
The winner, Patontheback (IRE), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Newcastle on 30 November 2021 where the gelding finished eleventh of fourteen, beaten by 6½ lengths.
It was noted that the representative of David O’Meara could offer no explanation for Patontheback (IRE)’s improved form on this occasion.
The gelding was routine tested.
Following the race, Jason Hart reported that Independent Beauty (GB), unplaced, hung badly right- handed, Mollie Phillips reported that Astrophysics (GB), placed third, hung right-handed and the Veterinary Officer reported that Indian Affair (GB), placed sixth, lost its left-fore shoe.
Darragh Keenan reported that Sword Exceed (GER), which started favourite and finished unplaced, was never travelling and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
