Inside the final furlong, Jonathan Fisher, the rider of Valorant (GB), placed sixth, struck the arm of Kevin Stott, the rider of Tangled (IRE), placed fourth, once with the whip but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was considered to be accidental.
The winner, Global Spirit (GB), appeared to show an improvement in form compared with its previous run at Ripon on 14 April 2022, where the gelding finished eighth of nine runners, beaten by 20 ¼ lengths.
Roger Fell’s representative explained that Global Spirit (GB) had stripped fitter for its first run of the season 13 days previously having not run in over 6 months prior to that.
Their explanation was noted and the gelding was routine tested.
