Easy opening-race win for Fox In Flight
He had run over every trip but the trainer eventually got it! Physically he is quite sharp, but mentally he wasn't. We started him off over the six (furlongs), and you couldn't say he didn't stay the seven because he was only beaten a nose and a head. He is a lovely horse and will come back here for the winners' race in nine days time.
'Absolute no-hoper' gives 56-year-old McCullagh a 50/1 winner
'Turf' winner McMonagle delivers at Dundalk
Newcastle-bound Swango scores for McGuinness
The handicapper put us up 2lb (to 68) for finishing second last Friday and while I hadn’t intended on running today, she ran so well that I decided to run her again. He is going to hammer her again now but I said to Claire (Wylie, part owner) 'this could be a Newcastle horse'. She is going to get a right hike for winning today, but that mares' race on Good Friday has great prize money and it took only a 60-rated filly to win it last year. That race is a handicap and she could squeak in off the bottom. She is well able to travel and as Adam said, the better horses took her into the race more. We'll have to see what Mark (Bird) and Gary (O'Gorman, handicappers) do first and then we'll see. There's a good €25,000 seven furlong-handicap up here in a few weeks so we might have a look at that.
McGuinness and Caffrey complete Dundalk doubles
He (Caffrey) was good and positive on him, there was plenty of pace on, he rolled home and picked them off. Fair play to him, Adam knows him well and he has won on him a few times. We'll hopefully find something else for him before Christmas, but today was the plan first of all. We'll keep rolling and he will get another day somewhere. It is great for Paddy (McKeever, part owner) who is a former Armagh footballer. He was giving out to me a few times, but we got it right today!
John La Bear scores for O’Sullivan & O’Connor
Walhaan registers an eighth win
I suppose he's back down to a rating of 80 which is a help to him, and the jockey’s 7lb claim helped as well. Patrick is an excellent claimer and has been very good all year for us. He has ridden winners and a lot of placed horses for us and I thought he gave that horse an exceptional ride, having received a lovely briefing from Ben Coen beforehand. We have a nice team in place with riders, which is a big help to us. The horse found plenty and that (1m2f) is absolutely his trip, he hits the line strong over that trip and loves the surface here. He's turning 10 in the new year, so every day is a bonus now. He's a lovely horse for the yard and hopefully he will come back here again or run over hurdles at Christmas.
