Approaching the final ½ furlong, One Punch Terri (GB), unplaced, shifted quickly left-handed whilst racing greenly, hampering Seb's Welcome (FR), unplaced, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
Approaching the ½ furlong marker, Mercurius Power (IRE), placed fourth, hung sharply left-handed, hampering Clearly Crystal (GB), unplaced, which in turn caused Royal Heart (FR), unplaced, to hang left-handed across the running of Knight Of Kings (GB), unplaced, causing its rider to take a check, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Mercurius Power (IRE).
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Roman Mist (IRE), ridden by Stevie Donohoe and trained by Tom Ward, which broke well from the stalls and was settled in midfield before appearing to be considerately handled from leaving the back straight to finish seventh of twelve, beaten by 10 ½ lengths.
The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post- race examination of the filly failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated that his instructions were to drop in from her wide draw, tuck in and ride the race to achieve the best possible placing.
In explaining his ride he said that Roman Mist had jumped well and he was able to tuck her in mid-division but when there was an injection of pace rounding the final bend she was unable to quicken with the field.
He added that Roman Mist was also inconvenienced by Mercurius Power (IRE) taking her run entering the home straight which resulted in her losing further ground so he rode her hands and heels to the line maintaining that she was finishing one-paced and had achieved her best possible placing.
He added that he had reported back to the Trainer that Roman Mist had been unsuited by the stop, start nature of this race and had recommended that she would be better suited by a stronger gallop, to keep her to a mile but to ride her more prominently.
His explanation was noted.
Following the race, William Cox reported that Seb's Welcome (FR), unplaced, fly leapt when leaving the stalls and was slowly away as a result, Cieren Fallon reported that One Punch Terri (GB), unplaced, ran green and Edward Greatrex reported that Go Oscar Go (IRE), unplaced, hung badly right-handed and was unrideable in the final half of the race; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
