That was a class ride and was as good a ride as I have seen Leigh give one - it was perfect. He just got up on the line, what more can you say. It wasn't a straightforward race and it was a messy. They jumped and went along early, and then they steadied it up. This horse was the last Flat winner of the year in 2025 and now he's our first of ‘26. We never really had a doubt that he would get today’s (1m4f) trip, but it now gives us more options. We actually feel with the way he hit the line there, that we might even step him up further. He's a nice horse. He was a very late foal and we had to just take our time with him, but he has a very nice pedigree. We always thought there was something in the tank, so we never really pushed too hard. This year he has come to himself and we think there is more to come. He's a horse that seems to be improving all the time, great attitude at home and is thriving really well. Very green (on debut) and even there when Billy pulled him out, he was a bit green and ran about a bit, but straightened himself and come home. Actually looked to have won it nicely enough in the end.

Billy gave him a lovely ride, got a good position throughout the race and he picked up nicely. He had won previously at Gowran and while we always felt he wanted 1m4f, we didn't get our tactics right the last few times. We got him to relax today, took blinkers off and put the cheekpieces back on and everything worked. Unfortunately Jim (Nicholson) isn't here and while I was in the UK with him recently and we travelled home together on the same flight, he couldn't come due to work commitments. I told him to come, without me sounding too confident, so he'll probably be sorry to miss out. Jim is from outside Belfast, is steeped in racing through his association with Down Royal and the Tote, and is a very good owner.

He won the Apprentice Derby for us with Paddy on him as well. Paddy is local to us in Letterkenny and we like to keep it local. Luke McAteer has rode for us as well,. This is a great course. All things being well he runs again at the Curragh on Tuesday and then we’ll put him away until next year. He’ll get his holidays as he doesn’t handle the all-weather. That’s our fourth winner this year and we’ve had six seconds and three or four thirds as well from six horses. It’s a nice enough strike rate and we’ve a couple of nice horses. They’ve been going well. We’re hoping to go to the sales now in Newmarket and stock up to keep the show going.
