Jim Bolger’s colt, runner-up on his debut just two days previously, was coming with a strong challenge when running short of room but kept on well to almost snatch a place. He’s clearly a promising type although will have to prove his stamina over this extra quarter mile. Duke De Sessa was not up to Group 1 class in the National Stakes at the Curragh but had easily won a maiden at the same venue and should be competitive in this grade. There are a host of unexposed maiden winners that could handle the step up in class with Listowel winner French Fifteen and Killarney scorer Piz Badille just two to mention, while William Haggas’ Grenoble handled soft ground well to win at Nottingham and is another to bear in mind.
