D.P. McDonogh, rider of Viking Invasion, trained by Joseph Patrick O'Brien, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount lugged right, that he used his whip down the shoulder for corrective measures and his mount was also intimidated by the horse beside him

The Raceday Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages involving Viking Invasion, ridden by D.P. McDonogh, placed first and In My Teens, ridden by G.F. Carroll, placed second, where it appeared that interference may have occurred. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. D.P. McDonogh stated that his mount drifted right, he made every attempt to straighten and that his mount then received contact from In My Teens. G.F. Carroll stated that his filly received a very severe bump which caused his mount to become unbalanced and felt this did not do him any favours in relation to his finishing position. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were of the opinion that while Viking Invasion had caused interference to In My Teens, he did not improve his finishing position as a result of this interference, so they made no alteration to the Judge’s placings. Furthermore, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that D.P. McDonogh had taken reasonable steps to avoid causing interference and herefore took no further action
