We were ready to rock and roll for the Irish Lincoln but unfortunately he scoped poorly the week of the race, so we just had to sit and wait,. It's obviously been a very difficult winter to get these horses right for the spring but every trainer is in the same boat. I just had to take my time with this horse.Â . He had been showing all the right signals at home and, we felt he was just ready to start. We had to back off him and, we had to load him with antibiotics there for a month so, he was just ready to start. Hopefully now the horse has a bright summer in front of him.Â . We'll have to see what the handicapper does to him but we might make a Royal Hunt Cup entry tomorrow. Hopefully he'll develop into a stakes horse later in the season.

he got a little bogged down in the ground at the Curragh the first day where seven furlongs probably didn’t suit him either. We expected a better run that day but were very disappointed coming home. We put the hood on and he settled better today: he has been over-racing through his races a little bit. we’ll keep him to Listed and Group 3s here and maybe come back here on Champions Weekend for the Boomerang Stakes. He’ll be a solid horse in all those Listed and Group races here and at the Curragh for the season. We tried him in a Group 1 last year and he’s just not quite that level but he’s very solid at this level and he’s able to carry the penalties. People say he’s effective on soft ground but that was in a nursery and in a conditions race as a two-year-old, but this - and quicker, is his preferred surface.

I’m delighted. He’s due that and he was knocking on the door in some big premier handicaps. He gave me my first winner here last year. I’m training exactly 12 months and he’s been good to me. I have a couple of jumpers but I like the Flat. We had to move out of Cork because of rapeseed and I’m based in Kildare for the last four or five weeks. It affected us big time. They came out of it, but there are still a few that wouldn’t be right and we had to let them off. I’m right next to Kildangan Stud. We have good facilities, a swimming pool and a deep Wexford sand gallop. We have use of all the Curragh gallops, which is gold. I’ve 14 in training and looking for more. There are plenty of empty boxes and plenty of horses there for people to get involved with. I bought this lad in Tattersalls last July for 3,500gns. He had a real good maiden run against good horses. I went to look at him and said ‘he’s coming home’.

We are getting great support (from the Shamrock Thoroughbreds syndicate) up here on Wednesdays and Fridays. They are definitely enjoying it. It is a fabulous racecourse and it is great to give lads something to look forward to during the winter time. It is a fabulous outlet week in, week out. He was very impressive the last night in a slowly-run mile and did well to quicken up in the '80' grade. Obviously, it was a step up in the '90' grade tonight, but they went a nice gallop. Leigh Roche's horse (Rockbury Lad) gave us something to aim at up the straight. It was a really true-run mile and I think that is what he needs. He could even get a little bit further in time, but we are going to stick to a mile. He's definitely reliant on pace because he is a hold-up horse. He's a three-year-old horse and we will find something there in the new year. It will be kind of a Newcastle plan with him, maybe, as well. He's a horse that has a lot of talent, but is still growing up mentally. He's still a little bit babyish, and hopefully that will give him confidence. He's a fine horse.

He's a tough, very genuine, game horse,. In his younger days he was a very immature horse so I gave him a lot of time and it all paid dividends. He loves to come from off the pace and he's very consistent. He ran very well in the Nasrullah (when third at Leopardstown), he was only beaten over a length. It’s not very often you get to win two €100,000 handicaps one after another,. He’s a lovely horse, very professional. We thought this was his trip and we fancied him, we thought he’d run a big race. We thought in the Curragh that he idled a little bit in front. A couple of people were saying that some horses were finishing well but I just think he idled a little bit. We made sure that we had him coming home today. He gave him a great ride and it was a good bit of placing by Ed (brother). We’ll see what the handicapper does. I’d love to bring him to Galway. It would be a tough feat but I think he would suit the place. He’s got gate speed and stays. He’ll handle a bit of ease in the ground as well if there is a slight ease there. A big thank-you to Mick Halford too, we were very lucky to get him. His mum passed away yesterday.

Things didn't happen for her at Galway where she didn't handle the track, but she had been knocking on the door and we're delighted with her. She kept finishing placed so had been frustrating but we thought a lot of her last year, when her maiden form was very good. Things went wrong afterwards, she got sore shins and her head went a little bit but we have her back now and she is really doing things right. Shane said it was lovely to have another horse to aim at (clear leader No Such Thing) and she really enjoyed chasing, although didn't do much when she got to the front. The easiest part was looking at him out there. He's a real handful as you can see with him coming in there now. We had some job tacking him up. I wasn't on the ball today, I should have had earplugs or something on him. He got really upset before the race and I honestly thought that was it, race over. Fair play to him he's a good horse., he's tough. He's very revved, that's the way he is. He actually hasn't been that revved in a long time, last year he was very difficult but he settled down a lot and we thought we were past all that. He got very revved up today but I suppose it is Derby Day. Like I say I just wasn't thinking ahead. It fantastic, we had a winner at this meeting on the Saturday last year. To have a winner at the Curragh is fantastic anyway and on Derby Day is even extra.

He is a lovely horse, we've always thought an awful lot of him and he was shrewdly bought by Patrick (Cooper) from the John Dance-dispersal sale last February. He misbehaved at the Curragh and Cork earlier in the year so we gelded him since and he behaved impeccably today. He did what he was supposed to do, is a lovely horse going forward and we'll hope to pick a winners' of one next. We'll plot our way through the season as he is ground-versatile.

I have all the horses for Padraig (O’Rourke) and he decided to send him on to me,it was either that or get rid of him. . He worked very well and I fancied him, I thought he’d go close. . We don’t know what he is yet, but he’s a nice horse. He’s probably not badly handicapped, he won with a bit in hand. . He probably likes that ground because he did work on it the other day. .
