He was good, he had a good run the last day and we thought he had come forward,. Shane was just waiting, he wanted to go up the inside. I was a bit worried about the ground beforehand but I rang Shane on my way down here, after the first race, and he said ‘no, it’s grand, if he can’t go on that he can’t go on anything’. He quickened up well. It’s only his second run and he’s still very green. I think it was a solid maiden. He said he got that well and he’ll end up going a mile-and-a-half, despite being by Calyx. I don’t think he’d go on very soft ground. It’s nice to get his head in front, it’ll keep the (Alpha Racing) syndicate happy as they all have expectations unfortunately now!. He’s not man enough for a handicap yet so we’ll see where we go now.

He’s a big backward fella. Ben said he was on and off the bridle and he was still green. He’s a bit of a work in progress. He stays a mile-and-a-half well and it was good to see him perform on that kind of ground as well. It was a very competitive race; there were a lot of fancied horses in it. He is not huge in stature, but he jumps and is big in heart. We had this plan for him all year as we were lucky in this race last year (when held at Tipperary), so we said we'd go again. He had a higher Flat rating than my winner (Minella Study) last year and he is a well-bred horse who is by a good sire. Corky (Carroll) had a lot of schooling done with him. Options over hurdles are scarce for him now, so he can go back on the Flat where there is a good pot in him. . He is a nice sharp horse, he doesn't know he is small and in fairness, they say the New Bays want soft ground so we'll see. He is for sale and could be a horse for America.
