Formscan By Gary Carson - GAUCHER was impressive on his last visit here and can strike again. The Frankel gelding quickened away in fine style then to score by a commanding six lengths and he looks to have plenty of gears to drop back in trip now to the extended ten furlongs. A few of these look like they want further than this. The 105-rated A Piece Of Heaven would be a big player at his best but has been lightly raced in the last couple of years and weakened tamely on his return over hurdles at Thurles recently. Dallas Star ran well over two miles here last month and could be a bigger danger.

He was riding placed horses and everything, it just wasn't happening for him. I was feeling sorry for him, especially as a young fella who has ridden out his claim, they struggle a little bit starting off. They don't turn into bad riders overnight. Unfortunately, some people do think that. He's a good kid and a very good kid to ride. He gave the horse a smashing ride and I'm delighted for the lads. He is a good horse and he ran some cracking races in England. We were very disappointed in Killarney the last day, I just couldn't put my finger on it. Maybe I brought him back too quickly after the Northumberland Plate. We just gave him a bit of time off. He got a little gallop up here the other day and that was the only thing he got since. He danced on the ground and is definitely a lovely horse. I'd love to jump him over a hurdle at some stage. There's a good pot in Southwell in the Racing League and he'll get into that if we want to go there, I think it is a mile and a-half. he could end up going there. He (Caffrey) rode out his claim very quickly, he was second in the apprentice title two years on the trot. In this game, as we all know, nobody gives you a clap on the back for being second. He has had to work very hard. I had a good chat with him yesterday. Lads start second guessing and it just doesn't happen, you've just got to relax and ride your usual race. Let it happen and it will happen. I suppose a little worry carrying that weight - it is hard to give away weight even though he is a very good horse. We love him and can't wait until he goes hurdling. He has been schooled and he jumps well. He doesn't want soft or heavy ground, so it could be spring or summer jumping. We wouldn't mind a day out in (Royal) Ascot with him on the Tuesday in the 2m4f handicap. We will probably run him in that for the owner.He'll stay on nice ground there. We think a bit of him, he has been rated that high since he was a three-year-old.
