Formscan By Gary Carson - Shrapnel is an improver but looks to have plenty on his plate here carrying top weight in a competitive looking heat. CALL ROG could be counted an unlucky loser at Gowran Park last time as he stumbled when holding every chance on the run-in. The winner Treat Yourself ran well in a competitive event at Leopardstown recently so the form looks solid while the extra half mile here should suit as he stayed the trip well when winning his maiden hurdle at Wexford. Tony Martin's horses in handicaps always command respect and Miriam's Dream with Paul Carberry booked is of obvious interest. He stuck at it well to claim his maiden hurdle at Roscommon in October when he looked like he would appreciate a step up in trip. Canaly comes here having won a novice chase at Fairyhouse a couple of weeks ago but there may be a couple better handicapped over hurdles while Away We Go represents the top men but has to bounce back after a disappointing run at Navan.
An extended handicap hurdle for four yrs old and upwards (130 = 11st 10lb)Weights - Top weight in the original handicap shall; not be less than 11st 10lbPenalties - Winner of a hurdle race after calculation of the handicap to carry 6lb extra for each hurdle race won. Any horse rated above 130 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 11st 10lb. Subsequently, the excess over 130 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse. (For the purpose of this note, any four year old rated above 130 shall have the applicable weight for age allowance then prevailing deducted from the horse's rating prior to the original calculation of the handicap)
