Formscan By Shane Redmond - It is hard to look beyond WITCHES FAMILIAR (5). An easy winner of her maiden hurdle at Ballinrobe in May, she followed up in similar style when beating this afternoon's rival Mino Des Mottes in a novice hurdle at the Galway Festival. A repeat of that effort should see her home in front. Perhaps Switch From Diesel will be the danger this time, she scored back-to-back wins over hurdles at Punchestown before running well on the Flat when third to Deressa and Royal Hollow in a fillies' handicap at Ballinrobe at the end of June.

He was a bit unlucky the last day in Kilbeggan, it just didn’t work out for him on the night. He’s improved again and he’s a big raw horse, a fine-looking horse. It’s great for the Devine family because they bred him, it makes it even more special as he’s like a member of the family. Geraldine and Nick are delighted. He’s a horse that should keep improving and he’ll have no problem jumping a fence. Ricky said he’s raw, he’s on it and off it, and I’d imagine there is plenty more improvement in him. We kept her for Galway, after she won so easily first time up, we just thought she was alright,. We had her in for a lot of last season but we kept her as a novice, we thought she was a bit better than the average novice. You won’t get too many Zaraks now for jumping bred mares, it’s nice to have a filly going jumping by him. She did it well and she’s one that we think a bit of. It’s a pity Rich and Susannah can’t be here. We’ll up her in grade as best we can. I’d probably be looking at her as a Royal Bond-type filly. We might just leave her now. I can see her being a good mare in novice company for the whole season. We thought she had ability, we trained the half-sister and she won a maiden hurdle as well. I thought she’d probably learn a lot today. I suppose a couple of things fell right for her, it was a messy race but she still had to be very gutsy to go out and beat horses with more experience. I think that was the impressive part and we’re delighted with her. For a mare running her first ever race on the track to be that straightforward and not bat an eyelid, I think, was a great sign.
